Attendance
Attendance in Jeffco
The importance of regular, daily school attendance as a basis for academic achievement cannot be overemphasized. Attendance is a shared responsibility of the student, the families and the school.
It is the family’s responsibility to ensure their student attends school and to notify the school when their student is absent for a legitimate reason, such as an illness or family emergency. Each family should also ensure their student’s school has their correct contact information so that the school is able to communicate about any attendance issues that may arise.
GOOD ATTENDANCE IS A REQUIREMENT AT EMS. This includes being on time at the start of the day and to every class.
The attendance line number is 303-982-5018.
When your student needs to be absent, there is a new preferred protocol for informing EMS about the absence. Please review the Absence Reporting Tool document for the new, and more convenient, online reporting system being adopted throughout Jeffco.

I need to pick my child up from school during the school day. What do I need to do? |
You can call the office (303-982-5020) prior to your arrival so we can call the student down so the student can be waiting in the office when you arrive for pick up. Or your student may bring a signed note to the main office with the time you will pick them up. Then the student will be waiting in the office when you arrive for pick up. |
What is the policy on tardiness? |
If students arrive at school after 9:00 AM, and their parent/guardian signs them in late, they will be issued a pass that excuses their tardy. When arriving without a parent/guardian, the student will be sent directly to class and the tard will be marked as an unexcused tardy. Being late to classes is unacceptable. Tardiness disrupts the learning process and interferes with the opportunity for all students to learn. Tardies result in the following consequences: First tardy – Warning and documentation by the teacher Second tardy – Warning and documentation by the teacher Third tardy – Parent contact by the teacher Fourth tardy – Referral to counselors for additional problem solving Subsequent tardies - An attendance plan is developed by the administration, counseling, and teacher team. The tardy count starts over each quarter. |
What if a student is marked tardy or absent by a teacher? |
You will need to contact that teacher for an explanation or correction. |
What is the make-up work policy? |
Students who have excused absences will have two days to make up their work for every day absent or alternative arrangements may be made with their teachers. |
